Report on the Organic Monitoring Program of Baden-Württemberg 2007
10/20/2008 The so-called organic monitoring came to life as a result of an overall concept of promotion and consultation on organic farming, as decided by the government of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg on 16 October, 2001. Such a profound monitoring program exists only in Baden-Württemberg. It is unique within Germany, and no comparable surveillance programs are known to exist in Europe.
Pesticide residues in berries (excluding strawberries) May - August 2008
10/14/2008 Berries, no matter if currants, raspberries, blueberries,
blackberries or gooseberries, are very popular with consumers. Due to their fruity and fresh
taste, they are a widely appreciated healthy refreshment, especially in the hot summer months.
But as they are very sensitive, pesticides are often used in their cultivation. For this reason,
pesticide residues in berries have again been part of this years pesticide residue monitoring
at CVUA Stuttgart.
Pesticide residues in strawberries surveyed in 2008
10/14/2008 Strawberries are one of the most popular fruits
in Germany. But due to their vulnerability, especially towards molds, pesticides are often
employed in their cultivation. Thus, from January till July 2008, CVUA Stuttgart analyzed a
total of 105 samples of conventionally grown strawberries and 15 samples of organically grown
strawberries of different origins for pesticide residues. The samples were collected by official
food inspectors mainly from local growers or wholesale fruit markets, the rest was collected
in retail. The analyzed pesticide spectrum included ca. 500 different substances.
